At Miami Children's we know that a child's needs are different from adults and to ensure that your child is seen by a pediatric specialist when it is most needed, the department has all board-certified and board-eligible attending pediatric specialists and subspecialties on-call, 24 hours a day. In fact, we are the only free-standing pediatric trauma center in Florida.
With a caring team of nurses and doctors and the most technologically advanced equipment, Miami Children's Emergency Department provides the immediate quality care that your child needs. In 2003, the ED saw over 87,000 patients with an average length of stay, from registration to discharge between 2 and 3 hours.
Miami Children's Emergency Department was ranked 10th nationally among children's hospitals in the 'Emergency Care' subspecialty list by Child magazine in 2007. Miami Children's Hospital was the only Emergency Department from Florida to be included.
The Jackson Organization has presented Miami Children's Hosptial with a "Commitment to Excellence Award" for Pediatric Department Satisfaction in 2002. Miami Children's received the award for achieving "exemplary performance in customer satisfaction for an Emergency Department in a pediatric hosptial" category.
To continue to be a leader in ensuring patient satisfaction, the entire Emergency Department staff devised and implemented strategies to reduce patient waiting time, enhance the atmosphere in the waiting room, and improve the delivery of patient care. The improvements have resulted in a customer satisfaction rating in the 90-95th percentile among pediatric emergency departments nationwide. And the efforts have not ceased, April of 2003 marked the opening of the expanded Emergency Department which includes four new patient rooms, an elevated helipad to enhance the facility's ability to handle incoming traumas, a state-of-the-art Triage Center with an outdoor play area for patient's siblings and a new X-ray room to ensure patients receive their X-ray results in timely manner. In addition, the South Dade Center offers the South Dade community with an after-hours Urgent Care Center, providing medical services for routine and urgent pediatric care in cooperation with your child's pediatrician.
One way that Miami Children's Hospital's emergency department distinguishes itself is by integrating the hospital's comprehensive support services. When your child is cared for by the MCH ED, he/she will also be comforted by our child life specialists and the many other support services that are part of the MCH family. These wonderful staff members are here to ease your child's fears about the procedures they will go through and reduce the stress associated with medical care.
